“From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic, an iron curtain has descended across the continent.” – Sir Winston Churchill
In late 1945, the world rejoiced at the end of World War II. The American and Soviet armies, once eager to meet, now eyed each other warily from opposite sides of the border.
The lines had been drawn, and any pretense of postwar cooperation quickly dissolved, replaced by mutual distrust.
While the United States possessed the Atomic Bomb, the Soviet Union rushed to restore the balance—by any means necessary.
This is where the game begins, and you take command.
2 Minutes to Midnight is a historical simulation game that recreates 50 years of the Cold War in sessions lasting from 1 hour up to 7 hours in the full scenario, for 1 or 2 players.
Players face each other through historical challenges presented by events while striving to expand their superpower’s influence across the world map.
Espionage, coups, technological development, civil wars, invasions, and economic investments—all are valid tools to extend your bloc’s influence and achieve victory.
The U.S. player’s mission is to paint the world red, white, and blue: to ensure that Europe remains free and to spread democracy to every corner of the world—especially those rich in oil and with strong economies.
As the Soviet player, you must win the Cold War—or at least hold on long enough—clinging to power as the USSR crumbles under reform. Though its fall may seem inevitable, perhaps it could have been avoided had someone other than Gorbachev led the nation.
