Data sheet
Stalingrad Roads is a two-player wargame covering the Soviet siege and defeat of the Axis forces that surrounded Stalingrad in the winter of 1942-43.
It is the third game in the "Roads" series (after Liberty Roads and Victory Roads) and shares many of the same innovative supply, command, and Führer approval mechanics as its predecessors.
It offers new perspectives on the Soviet counterattack at Stalingrad, including mandatory offensives and loss of Soviet momentum, Stavka reserves, German superiority rules that fade with Soviet victories, and Von Manstein’s counterbalance to ensure German reinforcements against the Führer’s most reckless impulses.
The game shares many features with other hex-based and counterattack wargames but introduces notable differences such as high weather variability, no zones of control when moving, and the importance of nearby headquarters to maintain unit supply. Combat is tough for both sides, rewarding precise positioning and timely support counterattacks.
The full campaign can take several hours, although shorter scenarios can be played in an afternoon.
