Data sheet
Two complete games that recreate more than 100 years of history in an epic struggle between the two powers of the era. This conflict, known as the Punic Wars, shaped the course of history that has endured to this day.
Hannibal, designed by Mark Simonitch, is one of the best titles ever published for two players. A perfect combination of intensity and balance between both powers. The development of the game is a living story, of which you will be a part and responsible for the final outcome.
In this 20th Anniversary Edition, the game has been updated on every level. After years of play and thanks to feedback from players all over the world, games are now faster and learning the rules is easier. The game’s artwork has been completely renewed and the quality of all components has been improved, including faithful miniatures representing the key leaders of the conflict.
Furthermore, to commemorate the 20th Anniversary, this edition includes Hamilcar, a completely standalone game that will allow you to relive the First Punic War.
Hannibal is a 2-player political and strategic control game whose main mechanic is card drawing and play to execute your actions. Set during the Second Punic War, one player will take command of powerful Rome while the other leads Carthage. 12 scenarios lasting from 30 to 240 minutes (Second Punic War, The Invasion of Italy, Hannibal ad Portas!, After the Battle of Cannae, The Climax, Rome Strikes Back, The Alliance of Hannibal Crumbles, Seeking Peace, The Bitter End, Iberian Campaign, Italian Campaign and African Campaign) perfectly recreate this conflict.
Hamilcar covers the early conflicts between Rome and Carthage during the so-called First Punic War. It is a standalone game that uses mechanics similar to those of Hannibal. It introduces a new element: the naval system and exciting naval battles. Both players must compete for supremacy over the Mediterranean Sea in an epic conflict known as the war of the whale versus the elephant (the struggle of a naval power against a land power). Rome’s objective is to penetrate Sicily, Corsica and Sardinia to wrest these territories from the Carthaginians, who must do everything possible to keep the Romans confined to the Italian Peninsula.
Hannibal has won numerous awards, including the Golden Geek for best 2-player game, Golden Geek for best wargame, and currently holds the 11th position in the world ranking of best wargames. It is more of an asymmetric game focused on politics, but war is key to achieving victory. According to the perspective of the classic Von Clausewitz, a power will only resort to war when there is no other option for total political domination. You will be able to experience firsthand the truth of these words.
