In 1972 ENASA introduced the new range of Pegaso trucks to replace the previous generation, which had begun production in the late 1950s and had become outdated in many aspects, especially the cab, which no longer met the comfort standards required at the time.
The three-axle version with double steering was therefore intended to replace the veteran 1063. This configuration was in high demand for heavy road transport in Spain due to its greater load capacity compared to traditional two-axle trucks, and the double steering provided a significant improvement in stability and manoeuvrability — very useful on the difficult roads of that era.
La Cocinera, a company also founded in Spain in 1960, used the Pegaso 1083 equipped with a refrigerated box, making it a symbol of the brand. It was featured in various advertising campaigns and promotions of the time, forming a perfect pairing.
