Operates on analog DC (two-rail) systems. Includes a 21-pin MTC (NEM 660) connector for digital conversion.
The minimum radius required to take a curve is 356.5 mm.
History of the 444.5:
The RENFE 444.5 "Estrella" were a subseries of electric multiple units modernized in the 1980s based on the original 444 units.
They were specifically adapted for long-distance services under the commercial name "Estrella" with a brown and cream livery.
They featured comfort improvements such as new front ends, renovated interiors, and air conditioning. They were used on routes between major cities until their retirement in the 1990s with the arrival of more modern units.
Today, they are remembered as a symbol of railway modernization in Spain.
