You find yourself in a pleasant alcove in one of the halls of Nebuchadnezzar II’s palace. Babylon is burning under the late spring sun, but the events unfolding before your very eyes chill you to the bone. A 13-year reign of unmatched courage, splendid victories, and relentless conquests is coming to an end not with a glorious battle, but with a death rattle. Alexander the Great, surrounded by his most loyal generals, is taking his last breath. You are not sure if he heard the coarse whisper that came from his final exhalation: "To the strongest."

When Alexander the Great died in 323 B.C., he left no clear heir to the vast empire he had conquered. It didn’t take long before the Macedonian generals began fighting among themselves over who would become regent or successor of Alexander’s empire. By 305 they gave up fighting for the succession and decided to focus on their own kingdoms.

Recreate the struggle of the Successors in this magnificent game for 2 to 5 players

Successors is an intense card-driven strategy game with simple yet deeply thematic rules. Each round, you will play a Tyche card, using either its event or its operation points.

By spending operation points, you will be able to move your generals, train new troops, or increase your political support in the provinces. By controlling provinces, you will gain victory points.

Game events will grant you various strategic advantages that can be decisive during the game: capture Alexander’s family members to gain prestige, arrange marriages with his wives, or bribe your rivals’ troops to join your cause. If you gain enough legitimacy, you may also claim victory.

However, keep in mind that you are not the only contender to succeed Alexander. The other players will be watching and will try to prevent your power or legitimacy from growing too much. You will have to fight them on the battlefield. When this happens, the skill of your general, your troops and their quality, and the goddess Fortune will determine the outcome.

Successors offers a unique strategic gaming experience: territory control, multiple paths to victory, and a fight to the death against your rivals where betrayal, switching sides, and backstabbing are the order of the day.
