In the year 2400, humanity begins to terraform the planet Mars. Massive corporations, sponsored by the global government of Earth, start enormous projects to raise temperature, oxygen levels, and cover the planet with oceans to make the environment habitable. As terraforming progresses, more and more people will migrate from Earth to live on the Red Planet. Control a corporation, play project cards, increase your production, place your cities and greenery on the map, and compete for milestones and rewards. Will your corporation lead the way to a new era of Humanity?

In Terraforming Mars, players take the role of a corporation with a specific profile and work together in the terraforming process, but they compete for victory points earned not only from contributions to Mars but also from improvements to human infrastructure across the solar system. At the start of each round (called "generations"), they acquire unique project cards (from a deck of over 200), which allow a variety of actions: from introducing new plant or animal species to launching asteroids at Mars, building cities, or mining Jupiter's moons for valuable resources (steel, titanium, energy…). Standard Projects also allow players to terraform Mars independently of the projects they acquire.

When global parameters (temperature, oxygen, and oceans) reach the required level, terraforming is complete and the game ends at the end of that generation. After tallying victory points, the player with the highest terraforming score will be the winning corporation!
