The Universe of Warhammer 40k
Warhammer 40,000 is set in the far future of the 40th millennium.
After a period of great technological advancements and under the leadership of the enigmatic figure of the Emperor and his sons, the Primarchs, the Imperium of Mankind experiences its golden age, exerting near-absolute control over a galaxy inhabited by different alien races, known as "xenos".
However, the dark Gods of Chaos wield their power from the shadows of the Warp, a parallel dimension of immense and pure energy.
Chaos manages to exploit the disagreements of some Primarchs with their father, the Emperor, and their brothers, which turns into an unstoppable hatred that leads to a great war known as the Horus Heresy. After seven years of colossal conflict, the Emperor is mortally wounded and confined to the Golden Throne, Horus, his favored and traitorous son, is slain, and the Imperium of Mankind is left devastated and engulfed in absolute darkness.
Meanwhile, the forces of Chaos are stronger than ever, and the xenos threats advance relentlessly.
All of this gives rise to an endless galactic conflict that fuels the background of Warhammer 40,000.
Game Mechanics of Warhammer 40k
In Warhammer 40,000, the objective is to lead an army and crush enemies in battle.
In each game, usually two players (though it can be more) deploy their miniatures on a tabletop with various scenery elements.
The game is played in turns, during which each player can take different actions with their miniatures.
Although there are rules that provide a clear game mechanics framework, there is a considerable degree of freedom for each side to act. Additionally, each game is played with predetermined conditions that determine the size of the armies and victory conditions.
Dice are used throughout the game to determine the success or failure of different types of actions.
Warhammer 40k Armies
Warhammer 40,000 players must choose the army they will lead into battle. In theory, the different factions are balanced to allow for personal preference in the choice. However, this is not always the case since the game's evolution is constant, with rules expanding or being modified with new mechanics, actions, miniatures, or factions.
Nevertheless, unless you are an experienced tournament player, our advice is to start with the army that appeals to you the most. Keep in mind that an army that may be weaker today could become one of the strongest in a few months.
