Historical overview of Euro 4000 locomotives

The Euro 4000 is a high-power diesel-electric locomotive designed by Vossloh at its Albuixech plant and officially presented in 2006. Equipped with a 16-cylinder, two-stroke EMD 710 engine, it offers 4,250 hp, making it the most powerful in Europe in its category. Its modular architecture allowed for versatile configurations for both freight transport at 120 km/h and passenger services at 160 km/h. Following Stadler's acquisition of the factory in 2016, this model established itself as a benchmark for mechanical reliability for international private operators. Its design has served as a fundamental basis for the development of the brand's current next-generation hybrid and diesel platforms.
