During the First World War, German field kitchens already underwent changes, primarily to increase the volume of transported food. The German army entered the next World War utilizing several types of field kitchens, which were categorized into large and small field kitchens (in German: Große Feldküche and Kleine Feldküche).
The first category mainly included the Hf.11 and Hf.13 models, which were reminiscent of World War I designs. Both models were very similar to each other, differing only in minor details. The main cauldron for meal preparation had a capacity of 200 liters, while the beverage container (most often coffee) held 90 liters.
On the other hand, the Hf.12 and Hf.14 models belonged to the small field kitchen category. In their case, the main cauldron had a capacity of 125 liters, and the beverage container held 60 liters. It is worth noting that most German field kitchens were horse-drawn, with motorized transport being the exception rather than the rule.
