You are in rustic, pre-modern Tuscany, where you have just inherited a small vineyard. You own some plots of land, an old wine press, a storage building, three workers… and a dream: to build the largest winery in all of Italy!

Your work will consist of assigning your workers and valuable visitors to complete a series of tasks throughout the year. In a vineyard, each season is different, so workers must handle different tasks in winter and summer. Competition for these tasks is fierce, and often the first worker to perform each task gains an advantage over the rest. Fortunately for players, people love visiting vineyards, and some of these visitors offer help during their visit, as long as you assign a worker to show them how to do things. Visits (in the form of cards) are short but very rewarding.

Through your workers and visitors, you can expand your vineyard by building structures, planting vines, and fulfilling wine orders, while working to achieve your goal of becoming the most successful winery in all of Tuscany.

Viticulture: Essential Edition is a worker-placement strategy game that allows players to create their own vineyard anywhere, using only a table and the company of good friends. This edition is a more robust version that combines the second edition of Viticulture with some elements from the Tuscany expansion (Mom and Dad cards, properties, new and redesigned visitors, and an Automa for solo play), with collaboration from designer Uwe Rosenberg.
