Data sheet
Towards the end of the 3rd century BC, the Roman consul Marcus Claudius Marcellus was nicknamed “The Sword of Rome” for his feats in the wars against the Gauls and the Carthaginians. Five centuries later, towards the end of the 3rd century AD, the old Republic is long gone and the Roman Empire seems doomed.
Enemies cross the borders, rebellions spread across the provinces and, every time an emperor tries to restore order, usurpers seize power in Rome. The emperor Diocletian decides to adopt a revolutionary solution: share power with trusted allies. Thus the Imperial College is formed together with Maximian, Constantius and Galerius, creating the first Tetrarchy.
Now the swords of Rome are four, and they will fall mercilessly upon their enemies… or perhaps not.
TETRARCHIA (from Latin, “rule of four”) is a cooperative game for 1 to 4 players in which each participant takes the role of one of the four emperors, fighting against internal revolts and barbarian armies that threaten to bring down the Empire. With simple rules but a dynamic system, each game offers different situations and surprising endings.
The game includes up to 81 difficulty challenges, defined during the initial setup. It can also be combined with 5 variants (including special powers and a competitive mode) and with 3 expansion pieces, including the Dux expansion.
It also features several historical scenarios, including:
Each emperor’s turn is simple: spend up to 6 Empire Points (EP) and then resolve the spread of threats by rolling two dice.
Emperors may spend their EP to:
Players win if they manage to secure the Empire’s borders before most provinces rebel or Rome falls.
