Root: Underworld Hirelings Pack - Strategy Expansion. 2TOMATOES

Root: Underworld Hirelings Pack Product Contents

Root: Underworld Hirelings Pack is an expansion for Root that brings six new hirelings into the Woodland. These neutral entities add fresh tactical options and allow you to shake up board states, injecting greater variety into your matches.

Hirelings can be added to games of Root at any player count. At lower player counts, they help fill out the board and increase tactical maneuvers, while in larger groups, hireling cards provide unique special abilities to tap into during play.

This expansion requires the Root base game to play.

How to Play

Root: Underworld Hirelings Pack introduces six neutral characters that players can draft as allies. Each hireling brings a unique power to the table and can drastically alter strategic decisions during a match.

The six hirelings included are The Sunward Expedition, Mole Artisans, Corvid Spies, Raven Sentinels, Furious Protector, and Stoic Protector.

Hirelings do not function as full factions in Root. Depending on the current board state, they provide new tactical openings and alter how players interact with clearings and territory control.

With fewer players, hirelings place additional warriors onto the board to generate higher tension over key clearings. In higher-player-count games, certain hireling cards flip to grant special active abilities, broadening your strategic options.

Gameplay Experience

Root: Underworld Hirelings Pack introduces a subtle layer of decision-making to Root without adding the rules overhead of complete factions. Hirelings serve as wildcards that swing the balance of power and open up fresh tactical avenues.

Their addition shines at lower player counts, adding board presence and forcing fiercer competition for key clearings. With larger groups, their unique powers grant alternate ways to exploit strategic openings.

Each of the six hirelings features unique capabilities, forcing you to constantly re-evaluate which ally best serves your plans and current Woodland control.

The expansion integrates seamlessly into core Root mechanics, supplying rich tactical variety without replacing any original factions.
