Paleo: A New Beginning. DEVIR

Paleo: A New Beginning is the first large-box expansion for Paleo, the cooperative game that won the 2021 Kennerspiel des Jahres. Designed for 2–4 players (ages 10+) with a playtime of about 50 minutes, it adds 171 new cards, modules, and sets that expand the experience of the base game. This time, we travel to a later moment in Prehistory, at the dawn of the Neolithic era.

In Paleo, each player leads a tribe dedicated to exploring, gathering resources, crafting tools, and facing the dangers of the environment. Games unfold over rounds with two phases: day, where players obtain resources and face challenges; and night, when the tribe consumes food and prepares for the next day.

The base game uses 2 of the 10 included modules, offering great replayability. The common objective is to complete five pieces of cave painting. If five skulls accumulate, the players lose.

With Paleo: A New Beginning, the experience grows thanks to 6 additional modules that can be combined with those from the base game. The new cards introduce mechanics such as capturing animals, growing grain, using bow and arrows, managing secret tokens, and taking advantage of a new resource: obsidian.

It also adds dream and idea cards, new tools, and a major change: during the night, any unused food is lost, making resource management more challenging. The farm module allows players to capture animals and collect grain, and it can be upgraded with a fence, millstone, sickle, or hut.
