Introduction to the 1:72 plastic models

Inside the vehicles and aircrafts range in the plastic models, the scale 1:72 has been beloved for many people, and hated for many others.

However, there is an undeniable fact, and it is that the variety of models in this scale is hardly surmountable by its elder sisters. From the historic figures from the Roman Empire or the Napoleonic Wars, passing by the first prototypes of war tanks, and ending in the most moder war vehicles.

It is curious to listen to many hobby fans in contests or modelling associations that they don't use the scale 1,72 because it is for children. Never further from reality.

The new kits with the lattest technology are in the same step than their elder brothers, with a very high detail level, including improves in photo etched metal and details which will leave many incredulous people with the mouth open.

From EL Taller del Modelista we invite you to discover this amazing scale.

They won't let you bad taste in the mouth!

This asian brand was one of the first ones in look back again to the 1:72 scale after many other manufaacturers leave it forgotten. Trying to put again in the game this small scale, the releashed many kits with a very high quality level.

Now, we are going to see a new manufactured kit from Dragon.

1. Armor Pro serie model from Dragon Ref: 7286.

2. Kit pieces. As we can see, it includes a staple, the bargue and a small bag with the new tracks and the undercarriage. As usual, it includes instructions and a small decal sheet.

3. Detail picture from the new injection system used by Dragon to make the tracks and the undercarriage in just one piece. The modellers who used to feel lazy to prepare these pieces, now they are going to have it much easier.

4. Many of the models have the tools and the accessories injected on the kit itself, which saves us a lot of time if we just want to paint our model quickly.

5. Bottom from the barge from our tank, we can see the detail level reached by Dragon

This chinese giant also put attention quickly on the 1:72 scale, offering a huge catalogue, in continuous expansion and with constant news.

In this case, we choose this small soviet dragging tractor used to recover tanks and in artillery dragging.

1. Introduction to the CHTZ S-65 artillery tractor Ref: 7111.

2. We can observe than the kit is made of 3 small plastic staples.

3. The rolling tracks are injected in just one piece, as in the Dragon model mentioned before. This time the material is rigid plastic, not in DS (vinyl), The detail level is really good.

4 & 5. Size does not matter, the kit details are as good as it is in bigger scales.

Other manufacturer for this scale is REVELL, a german origin brand with a very high pasion for details.

We are goign to analyze the kit dedicated to the british Challenger 1.

1. Introduction of the Challenger 1 Ref: 03183.

2. 6 The kit is made by 6 staples, as we can see the finish is excellent.

3 y 4. We can see the detail level which offers the german brand. The barge and the tower are extraordinary.

5. The tracks are represented by sections, in order to give us a detail quality amazing when we assemble them.

6. The cannon is injected in just one piece, we can see the loose links to assemble the turns of the drive and idler wheels of the undercarriage.

7. Side skirts injected in an independent staple.

This brand with russian origin also started to manufacturate scale 1:72 kits. Using very simplified staples they have been able to olffer us models with high detail level and pieces injected in a very confortable plastic to work with.

Lets check the Jagdpanther kit. Ref :5042

1. General view of the staples of a easy assembly model from the russian brand, it is made of two staples and a chassis.

2. Detail picture of the vehicle chassis, we can see the high level of detail offered in this kit.

3. The body of the tank comes injected in just one piece. We can see the tools and accessories injected apart, allowing us to work with these pieces separated.

4 y 5. The undercarriage is injected in one piece, joining on it all the interior parts from the undercarriage. We can see how, in other part of the staple, the expterior wheels are injected in pieces separated, making it easier to assemble and paint it.

It is one of the lattest brands in incorporate to the scale 1:72 vehicle production. This chinese manufacturer specialized on making modern russian vehicles and experimental german tanks (Paper Panzer). Its detail level is as great as its elder brothers in scales 1:35 and 1:48. These last generation kits include photo etched, turned brass cannons (in some models), chains with individual links, partial or full interiors, etc. It is, in consecuence, a very recommendable manufacturer with a very high quality.

1. Attractive introduction of the models from this new brand.

2. The model is made of six staples, a small photo etched, vinyl chains with great details and a very complete decal sheet.

3. Detail view of the photo etched sheet, we can see how complet it is for a 1:72 scale model.

4. Decal sheet, we can see that, even being an experimental vehicle, this manufacturer uses signs and brands from existing divisions from the WWII german army.

5 y 6. Exploded view of the powerful tower designed by Krupp at the end of the war, made up of four parts.

7. The kit offers us the option to assemble the suspension system in two ways. Here we can see the simplified system.

8 y 9. General views of the trolley suspension system to be able to assemble it in a complete and detailed way. Simply spectacular.

This is a small summary of the plastic brands that are constantly innovating in the 1: 72 scale. Do not miss the opportunity and start your collection of models at this scale.

They are bigger than you imagine!
