Data sheet
Le Havre is a game about managing a harbor, buying ships, and constructing buildings.
On each turn, players must decide whether to obtain a type of goods or perform a building action. The number of goods available varies from turn to turn. New goods are added regularly, increasing the total until a player takes them.
Wood, clay, and iron are construction materials. Fish, grain, and livestock are used to feed your harbor workers. Building actions allow you to process goods; you just need to flip the counters. For example, wood can be processed in the charcoal kiln to turn it into charcoal. While it was previously a construction material, it now provides more energy. Energy is needed, for example, to process clay in the brickworks to turn it into bricks. The charcoal kiln and the brickworks are just two of the many buildings you'll find in Le Havre. In each game, only a few of the additional special buildings are used, making every game experience different.
Players need to build wooden, iron, and steel ships in a shipyard to meet their food needs, which increase each round. With the exception of luxury liners, ships provide food each round. Players with ships can also use the shipping company to transport and sell goods.
Players can also use their money (francs) to buy ships and buildings. These can be built with materials or purchased with money. Any player can enter any building. Many buildings require an entry fee, usually in food.
At the end of the game, the player with the greatest fortune wins. Fortune is the total sum of money and the value of the player’s ships and buildings.
Le Havre is a game for 1-5 players, available in both a reduced and full version to provide the appropriate level of challenge for any gaming group.
